Widow says she wants home town burial for Milosevic
The widow of Slobodan Milosevic told a Belgrade newspaper she preferred to bring back her late husband’s body to the couple’s hometown of Pozarevac for burial, but that authorities in Belgrade would have to waive a standing arrest warrant for her first.
“I still have not made a decision where my husband will be buried,” Mirjana Markovic was quoted as saying by the Vecernje Novosti daily.
“If I was the only one deciding, it would be Pozarevac, definitely. But I’m just a hostage here of this arrest warrant.”
In the interview, Markovic repeated earlier claims that Milosevic was “killed by the tribunal” at The Hague, Netherlands, through ill-treatment.
“They could not refute his innocence,” said Markovic, who with the couple’s son, Marko, lives in Russia.
In the interview she also recounted her last meeting with Milosevic three years ago and their last phone conversation the day before his death.
