McManus signs new Celtic deal
10/03/2006 - 11:03:12Celtic defender Stephen McManus has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
The 23-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on the deal which will see him stay at Celtic Park until at least 2008, with the Hoops having the option of a further year.
McManus said: “I’m delighted to have agreed this new contract and, hopefully, I’ll be able to enjoy some success with the club in the next few years.”
Manager Gordon Strachan heaped praise on the youngster this week and hinted McManus was ready to agree new terms.
The player has flourished under Strachan this season after failing to make an impact on the first team under Martin O’Neill.
McManus has been a regular this season, making 31 appearances and scoring six goals.
