SIPTU warns employment standards must be protected
SIPTU has issued a stark warning to the Government and employers.
The union's general secretary Joe O'Flynn said today that that no new national wage agreement will be reached unless employment standards for workers are protected.
Speaking at a seminar on the Draft Services Directive in Cork he said that little progress is being made in the talks which began last month.
“Unless the regulations and compliance and enforcement are tightened up by agreement with employers and government in a new national agreement, then it would be impossible for us to enter into a new arrangement," he said.
“Talks are presently ongoing. It is extremely tedious. Little or no progress has yet been made, however, we’re committed to ensuring that every effort is made to try and see if we can secure an agreement."
