Kenny launches Dáil attack on McDowell’s performance

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has launched a scathing attack on Justice Minister Michael McDowell's in the wake of the Donna Cleary murder in Dublin.

Speaking in the Dáil today, Mr Kenny said the minister had failed on the two key indicators of his performance.

He said the rate of serious crime had increased under Mr McDowell's watch, while crime detection rates had also deteriorated over the same period.

"If he survives until next year, he will be the Minister for Justice who will have presided over 500,000 headline crimes," Mr Kenny said.
