Liverpool tourist chiefs defend Cavern Club omission
Tourist chiefs in Liverpool today defended the omission of the world-famous Cavern Club from a tourist map.
The nightclub, which helped to launch The Beatles, was left off the 2006 Liverpool Visitors’ Guide.
However the band, one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions, is not entirely ignored.
The map does include details of The Beatles Story museum and the Cavern Walks shopping precinct – named after the famous club.
The Mersey Partnership, which produces the guide, insisted Beatles’ fans had not been forgotten as there was a separate map dedicated to the band.
Martin King, director of tourism at The Mersey Partnership said: “Liverpool & Merseyside’s visitor guide gives The Beatles its own dedicated section as well as marking The Beatles Story museum and Cavern Walks on the pull out map.
“For the devoted Beatles enthusiast more information is available in the fab new ‘Home of the Beatles map’ launched last week by the Liverpool Culture Company and Beatles attractions in the city.”
