Vodafone to end roaming charges in North and Britain

08/03/2006 - 11:48:47
The mobile phone company Vodafone has announced plans to end roaming charges in the North and Britain for its customers in the Republic of Ireland.

The company said today that any bill-pay customers who travel to the North or Britain will only pay everyday rates on their phonecalls from March 14.

Pre-paid customers will have to pay a 26-cent connection charge, but normal rates will then apply thereafter.

Vodafone is also planning to introduce a similar package in the coming months for Northern Ireland customers travelling south of the border.

Last month, O2 abolished roaming charges in Northern Ireland for all of its customers and in Britain for its business customers only.

However, it was criticised for not also abolishing charges for British and Northern Irish customers who travel to the Republic.
