SIPTU standing firm on demands over job standards
08/03/2006 - 12:22:55SIPTU president Jack O’Connor has said his union isn't interested in concluding a new social partnership agreement unless guarantees on employment standards are forthcoming.
The issue has led to a deadlock in the current partnership negotiations, with the employers' body IBEC rejecting union calls for new legislation to prevent exploitation and so-called job displacement.
IBEC instead wants the matter dealt with through better enforcement of existing laws.
Speaking at a conference of security personnel in Dublin today, Mr O'Connor said it was still unclear if any agreement could be reached on the issue.
