Two car bombs explode south of Baghdad
07/03/2006 - 08:03:21Two car bombs exploded within minutes this morning south of Baghdad, injuring at least three people, Iraqi police said.
The blasts were detonated by remote control in Hillah, a mostly Shiite city about 60 miles south of Baghdad, said police Captain Muthana Khalid.
The first one went off at about 9.40am local time on the northern side of the city, on the road leading to Baghdad, causing no casualties.
Five minutes later, the second one exploded at a bustling market, injuring at least three people, Khalid said.
Hillah has suffered repeated attacks. On February 28 last year, a suicide car bomber blasted a crowd of police and national-guard recruits outside a medical clinic, killing 110 people and wounding 133 in the single deadliest attack in the two-year insurgency.
