Dyer gives Magpies a lift
Kieron Dyer has returned to training with Newcastle after missing three games and ended fears he was facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines with hamstring trouble.
Dyer returned to action last month after five months out but was then sidelined again and now Newcastle caretaker manager Glenn Roeder insists he will not rush the 27-year-old England midfielder.
Titus Bramble is also on the mend but neither he nor Dyer are likely to figure at Manchester United on Sunday.
Roeder told The Newcastle Evening Chronicle: “Kieron came out and did some ball work with us yesterday and it was great to see him back on the training ground.
“But it is still early days for him yet and the only thing we can say is that there is no way we are going to rush him back. Old Trafford is not in our thinking for him or Titus Bramble.
“Titus is back running again and he is happy at the stage his recovery is at following his hamstring injury.”
Roeder has engineered a revival since taking over from Graeme Souness, and in terms of Newcastle’s left-back Celestine Babayaro appears to have made the Nigerian into a new player.
Roeder added: “I keep telling him that when I was manager of West Ham, my team talk when we played Chelsea was partly based on how we could stop him because he was such a good player and he was always a problem to us both defensively and offensively.
“He is now showing that here at St James’ Park because he is a very, very good full-back and we need his experience.
“Babayaro might not have had the best of times here but I really recognise what he has done for me and the team in the past couple of weeks.”
