Cattle slaughterings up 63% in January
07/03/2006 - 11:11:12The number of cattle slaughtered in January of this year was up 63% on the figure for January 2005.
The number slaughtered in January last year was considerably lower than normal, due to the ending of the EU Slaughter Premium.
A comparison between January 2006 and 2005 figures shows that sheep slaughterings increased by 3.6%.
Pig slaughterings increased by 1.9%.
EU-15 pig-slaughtering figures between the periods January to September 2004 and 2005 decreased by 0.2%.
Denmark, France and Spain recorded decreases of 3.5%, 1.5% and 0.3% respectively. Germany and the Netherlands recorded an increase of 4.3% and 0.8% respectively.
