Mayo regroup for victory

Mayo bounced back from losing last week’s FBD League final to chalk up their third NFL win in Clontibret.
Monaghan lost out despite a late rally that included a 68th-minute goal from Stephen Gollogly.
Mayo gelled quickly – Conor Mortimer landed two points before setting up Billy Joe Padden for a drilled goal finish on 9 minutes. The visitors, who had David Heaney red carded on 18 minutes for a striking offence, led 1-10 to 0-05 at the break.
Having kicked 0-06 in the first half, Mortimer kept Mayo ticking and Dick Clerkin’s sending-off on 50 minutes blew Monaghan’s comeback chances.
