Food importation report shelved over research concerns

A food safety report documenting the illegal importation of poultry, meat and fish has gone unpublished because the number of premises visited was considered too low.

The report found that there is widespread mislabelling of food which misleads customers into thinking products come from Ireland.

Fine Gael TD Dan Neville has said the issue is not to be ignored, and that a full debate on the issue is needed.
