Ballack agent reveals Chelsea 'strong interest'

Michael Ballack’s agent claims Chelsea have a “strong interest” in signing the German international.

The midfielder was forced to deny reports he had already agreed to sign for the Premiership champions earlier this week, but his agent Michael Becker today told BBC Sport Online that there “will be ongoing contact” with the Blues.

Ballack is out of contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the season and has rejected a new deal at the Allianz Arena.

And Becker claims Chelsea are now hot favourites to sign the 29-year-old, who has been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United over the past few months.

“Nothing has been signed, but there will be ongoing contact with Chelsea,” he said. “There is strong interest from both sides. The trend is in this direction.

“Michael had initially been very keen on Real Madrid. But the leadership changes there in the last few months mean we don’t know what’s happening.”

Real sacked coach Wanderley Luxemburgo in December and their president, Florentino Perez, stepped down this week.

Becker said: “There has been a change in the whole set-up at Real and we don’t know where we stand – it’s very confusing.

“Michael will continue his career with a side that will win the Champions League.

“He definitely will not go to Inter Milan. He would only move to a club where he has a better chance of winning the Champions League than at Bayern.

“Inter are currently third in Serie A, whereas Bayern are top in the German league.”
