Staunton fields first Ireland team tonight
01/03/2006 - 09:48:52Steve Staunton will field his first Ireland side for the first time in tonight's friendly against Sweden at Lansdowne Road.
Tottenham striker Robbie Keane is also due to play his first match as Irish captain after he was confirmed as Kenny Cunningham's successor yesterday.
New caps Joey O'Brien and Kevin Doyle are both in the starting 11 for the match.
Staunton has said he wants a rousing performance tonight to overcome the disappointment of Ireland’s failure to reach the World Cup finals and to lay the groundwork for a positive European Championship qualification campaign.
