Campbell to coach Westmeath
28/02/2006 - 19:39:44Former Galway forward Justin Campbell has been taken on as coach to the Westmeath senior hurlers.
Campbell, whose inter-county career hit a peak when he played in the 1993 All-Ireland SHC final for Galway, will assist manager Seamus Qualter as the midlanders seek promotion from NHL Division 2B and an encouraging run in the All-Ireland championship.
Ex-Clare ace Ollie Baker, the Banner's All-Star winning midfielder of 1995 and 1998, had originally been offered the Westmeath coaching position with his work location of Ballinasloe particularly convenient.
But Baker was forced to turn down the Westmeath role as he was recently transferred to Thurles as a promoted garda sergeant. The two-time All-Ireland winner rejoined the Clare set-up as a selector at the start of the month.
