Ministers to discuss proposal for new council charges
28/02/2006 - 07:57:32The Cabinet is expected to discuss a controversial report recommending the introduction of new local council levies when it gathers for its weekly meeting today.
The report recommends the reintroduction of water charges to help local authorities raise much-needed revenue.
It also recommends a tax on holiday homes and second homes, as well as new charges for a range of local services.
The proposals, however, are unlikely to ever become reality as the Government is believed to be vehemently opposed to any new local taxes.
