Douglas suing media companies

28/02/2006 - 13:02:40
Michael Douglas is suing two US media companies, claiming they improperly used his name and image for their own gain.

The 61-year-old filed the legal action against Family Television Studios and Paradigm Media Group in Florida. He claims he agreed to host the Learning About series on the basis that it was educational and non-commercial.

Family Television Studios told the actor it produced "educational television for national distribution on networks such as Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel and Public Television". In fact, it produced commercial programming including infomercials and advertising, the legal action claims.

The Oscar winner has requested both companies cease to use his name and likeness. He also wants all profits they made as a result of their collaboration, as well as compensation of more than $75,000 (€63,000) plus legal costs.
