Afghan prison inmates agree to halt violence

Supplies of food, water and electricity were restored to rioting inmates at Kabul’s main prison tonight as the prisoners agreed to temporarily halt violence, officials said.

“I promised them I would do my best to solve their problems and they trust me,” said Sibghatullah Mujaddedi, the chief government negotiator. “They said they would not launch any more attacks right now.”
