Quinn has plenty to Crow about

27/02/2006 - 13:26:34
Crow Wood is on course for Cheltenham after pleasing connections in his prep run on the Flat at Lingfield on Saturday.

The seven-year-old was beaten just over two lengths in sixth place behind Grand Passion in the 10-furlong Winter Derby Trial.

It was the kind of run trainer John Quinn was looking before the Anglo Irish Bank Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the race that opens the Festival two weeks tomorrow.

“He’s come out Saturday’s race grand. It’s Cheltenham next, that’s the plan,” said the Malton-based handler.

“He’ll run in the novice hurdle on the first day. He’s also in the County Hurdle on the Friday and if he won well on Tuesday you never know, but he’s going to run on the first day.

“We just have to keep him in one piece now.

“He wasn’t beaten far on Saturday. There were good horses in the race and we got a nice run into him.”

Crow Wood, a 16-1 chance for the Supreme Novices’, has won two of his four starts over hurdles and finished fourth to Boychuk on his only previous visit to Cheltenham in November.
