Pollution leaves thousands without water in Roscommon
27/02/2006 - 13:54:43Around 5,000 homes in Co Roscommon have had their water supplies cut off as a result of pollution in a local lake.
The county council has switched off supplies to the towns of Strokestown, Elphin, Roosky, Tulsk and Tarmonbarry as a result of a serious diesel spill in Lisheen Lake.
Residents have been told the disruption to supplies could last for the rest of the week.
Tankers are expected to be brought to the main towns to provide an alternative source of water.
