Al-Qaida oil threats
26/02/2006 - 11:08:00Al-Qaida has vowed to mount more attacks on Saudi oil facilities after attempting to bomb the world’s biggest oil processing complex.
The foiled strike on the Abqaiq complex, near Saudi Arabia’s eastern Gulf coast, on Friday, could have been devastating.
Nearly two-thirds of the country’s oil production flows through the facility for processing to prepare for export.
The Saudi branch of al-Qaida warned in an internet statement that suicide bombers would target more oil plants.
“There are more like them who are racing toward martyrdom and eager to fight the enemies of God,” the posting said.
“You will see things that will make you happy, God willing.”
