Miller plea to Celtic fans

26/02/2006 - 10:36:52
Kenny Miller has asked Celtic fans not to judge him as a player during Scotland’s friendly match against Switzerland at Hampden next Wednesday.

The Wolves striker has signed a pre-contract with the Hoops and will move to Parkhead in the summer.

But the former Rangers player is hoping Celtic fans will delay their evaluation of him until he has made a few appearances in green and white.

He told the News of the World: “I realise that the vast majority of supporters at Hampden will only see me as Kenny Miller of Celtic.

“That means I’ll be under scrutiny for the first time as a Celtic player, even though I won’t join the club until the summer.

“Some people will be delighted at that prospect, others horrified at the thought of me wearing the Hoops and a lot of those folk will be at Hampden on Wednesday.

“If I’m selected and have a have a good game the Celtic fans who are glad I’ve signed for them will see it as further evidence that I could turn out to be a great striker for them.

“If I have a stinker the ones who don’t fancy me will hold it against me, say they were right and will question Gordon Strachan’s judgement.

“But I should only be judged as a Celtic player once I’ve had a few games under my belt at Parkhead, not on the evidence of this week’s friendly.”
