Down defeated after Murray no-show
26/02/2006 - 19:30:20Down 1-14 Offaly 1-18
Brian Carroll cracked over thirteen points to lead Offaly to their first Division 1A win in Ballycran today.
Hosts Down were forced to reshuffle their line-up before the throw-in, with full-back Stephen Murray refusing to play due to the presence of Simon Wilson, a non-trainer so far this season, on the team.
Down’s Martin Coulter and Paul Braniff hit the final two points for the first half to cut the gap to 0-07 to 0-09.
Gary Hanniffy then scored Offaly’s goal before Braniff netted from a 25-metre free. Carroll notched seven second half points.
