Mourinho rings in changes
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made four changes following the controversial 2-1 defeat at home to Barcelona on Wednesday which put the Premiership leaders’ Champions League hopes in the balance.
In came Robert Huth for Ricardo Carvalho at the back, Michael Essien and Shaun Wright-Phillips in midfield in place of Claude Makelele and Eidur Gudjohnsen and Didier Drogba was preferred to Hernan Crespo up front.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, whose side kicked off second from bottom, also shuffled his pack following defeat in their last fixture, at home to Manchester United on February 11.
Azar Karadas and Richard Hughes were handed recalls and there was a debut for new signing Ognjen Koroman, the Serbia and Montenegro midfielder.
Andres D’Alessandro and Sean Davis dropped to the bench and Noe Pamarot was omitted altogether.
