Lane steers Cork Con to final
Buccaneers 13 Cork Constitution 20
Richard Lane continued his devastating form as he grabbed two tries in Cork Constitution's 20-13 AIB Cup semi-final defeat of Buccaneers at Dubarry Park.
Former Ireland Under-21 winger Lane led the way as Con had little difficulty in booking a Cup final date with St. Mary's College on April 8.
On 9 minutes, a loose pass in the Buccs midfield was hacked on by Con and Lane charged through to gobble up possession and score.
Fly half Darragh Lyons converted and added a penalty as the visitors exerted some early pressure.
Lane sent Con hurtling towards half-time with a 17-0 lead as he got in for incredibly, his seventh try in three games.
Con captain Frank Cogan began the move which swung from right to left and ended with Lane gleefully crossing the Buccs whitewash for Lyons to convert.
Con lost centre Conrad O'Sullivan to the sin bin just before half-time as he was found guilty of killing the ball, and Buccs began the second half well with full-back Tom Cregan kicking a drop goal and penalty.
They increased their chances of a comeback win when lock Brian Buckley was pushed over for the hosts' only try.
Cregan converted for a 17-13 deficit, but with Buccs prop Brian Campbell in the sin bin, Lyons added a late penalty to confirm the Leesiders' passage through.
Scorers:
Buccs: Try: Brian Buckley; Con: Tommy Cregan; Pen: Cregan; Drop: Cregan Cork Con: Tries: Richard Lane 2; Cons: Darragh Lyons 2; Pens: Lyons 2
