Hadden hails superb Scots
Scotland coach Frank Hadden hailed an “awesome defensive effort” after England were beaten 18-12 at Murrayfield.
Scotland, who had already pulled off a home win over pre-tournament favourites France, deservedly added England’s scalp in the RBS Six Nations Championship.
England battered away at Scotland’s defence but could find no way through and Ben Cohen squandered their best chance of a try, dropping a pass when an overlap had been created.
“I’m so proud of the players,” a jubilant Hadden told BBC1. “It was an awesome defensive effort – absolutely sensational.
“Make no mistake, England played pretty well today. They hold onto the ball for long spells and are very difficult to play against but our defence was magnificent.
“The commitment that the boys showed was absolutely fantastic.”
Chris Paterson kicked five penalties and Dan Parks added a drop goal for the Scots while England had only four Charlie Hodgson penalties to show for their efforts as their hopes of the Grand Slam were dashed.
Triumphant Scotland skipper Jason White, who won the man-of-the-match award, hailed the victory as “one of the best days of my life”.
White also saluted the Murrayfield crowd who urged Hadden’s men on throughout.
“The crowd were brilliant, they just kept going, and we backed each other up on the pitch today with great team spirit.
“We could have gone another 10 minutes and kept on fighting for each other.”
