Croft close to City deal

24/02/2006 - 11:55:20
Lee Croft is on the verge of signing a long-term contract extension with Manchester City.

The England Under-20 international has been a regular member of City’s first-team squad this season, although most of his 17 appearances have come off the bench.

Croft has already benefited from a loan spell at Oldham last term but despite falling behind Trevor Sinclair in the battle for his preferred right-sided midfield berth, it appears Stuart Pearce has persuaded him his future lies at Eastlands.

“Everything is agreed with Lee Croft financially,” said Pearce.

“I have spoken to him and his agent about football matters. He is quite keen to stay here and hopefully he will be signing within the next day or so.”

Talks are also continuing with skipper Sylvain Distin, although Pearce does not envisage any problems in extending the Frenchman’s stay with the club either.

“Sylvain is a fantastic captain of this club and my personal relationship with him is very good.

“He is a great captain and a great man to have around. He is a great figurehead and I hope he will be here for years to come.”
