HSE announces new initiatives to tackle A&E crisis
24/02/2006 - 13:39:58The Health Service Executive has announced a number of new initiatives aimed at improving community care and reducing the pressure on A&E units.
The body said today that €6m would be spent this year on measures to speed up the movement of patients through hospitals.
It also said €4.5m would be spent on funding medical teams that treat patients in their own communities, thereby avoiding hospital admissions.
Further initiatives were announced today in a range of areas including combating MRSA and meeting the medical needs of ethnic minorities, while the HSE also revealed more details of projects previously announced in its service plan for 2006.
Funding of €350m has been provided to implement the new schemes.
