Garda body slams ‘politically motivated’ poster ban
24/02/2006 - 07:51:12The body representing rank-and-file gardaí has claimed it is being denied the right to organise opposition to the proposed garda reserve.
The claim follows an instruction from Garda HQ ordering the Garda Representative Association to remove posters it had erected in stations around Munster.
The posters were put up to inform the Gardaí about meetings being held to oppose the Government's plans to establish a part-time garda reserve.
The GRA has claimed the instruction to remove them was politically motivated.
Justice Minister Michael McDowell has already demanded that the Gardaí drop their opposition to the move as they take a vow to uphold the law and the proposed reserve is part of that law.
