Lucky Number Sleven is a fast-paced thriller
Lucky Number Sleven
Director: Paul McGuigan
Cast: Josh Hartnett, Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Lucy Liu, Ben Kingsley
Cert: 15
Or should that be Sir Ben Kingsley, since most of the publicity surrounding this film has been about the English Knight’s demands for the full and constant use of his title?
It’s a fast-paced thriller, full of witty one-liners and a plotline that packs in a lot of red herrings.
The problem is that it can’t, ultimately, make up its mind what direction it wants to take: is it witty or is it serious?
Slevin is played by the still-too-wooden Hartnett who tries to revive a life coming apart at the seams by taking off to New York. There, alas, he is involved in a dangerous case of mistaken identity and forced into crime in order to pay off a debt which he doesn’t owe.
Good cast hampered by what seems to be two different films badly welded together.
Star Rating: 2/5
