Middlesbrough v Stuttgart teams

23/02/2006 - 19:32:22
Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren once again left leading scorer Aiyegbeni Yakubu out of his European starting line-up as his side looked to book their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

The 18-goal Nigerian was named only among the substitutes, as he was last week at the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium, in one of four changes to the side which won 2-0 in the FA Cup at Preston on Sunday.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink again took Yakubu’s place, while there were also returns for Andrew Davies, skipper Gareth Southgate and Lee Cattermole at the expense of Tony McMahon, the suspended Emanuel Pogatetz and the injured Fabio Rochemback.

Stuttgart coach Armin Veh, who tasted victory for the first time in his reign against Mainz on Sunday, was without the injured Jon Dahl Tomasson and Martin Stranzl and the banned Fernando Meira.

He drafted Markus Babbel, Ludovic Magnin, Silvio Meissner and Jesper Gronkjaer into the team.

Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Davies, Riggott, Souhgate, Queudrue, Parnaby, Cattermole, Mendieta, Boateng, Downing, Hasselbaink. Subs: Jones, Ehiogu, Maccarone, Yakubu, McMahon, Taylor, Viduka.

VfB Stuttgart: Hildebrand, Hinkel, Babbel, Delpierre, Magnin, Soldo, Tiffert, Meissner, Gentner, Gronkjaer, Ljuboja. Subs: Heinen, Hitzlsperger, Gerber, Carevic, Cacau, Beck, Gomez.
