Nigerian militants don't plan to free hostages soon
22/02/2006 - 10:27:46Nigerian militants holding nine foreign hostages including a Briton today said they had no plans to release their captives soon.
They accused Nigeria’s government of wasting time in securing the hostages’ freedom.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta accused the government of launching a “time-wasting venture” in searching for a high-level negotiation team and said the oil workers taken hostage on Saturday won’t be freed soon.
“We have no immediate intention of setting these guys free,” the group’s spokesperson said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
The militants yesterday said negotiations had not yet been arranged for the release of the three Americans, two Egyptians, two Thais, one Briton and one Filipino.
