Cavan duo to miss remainder of NFL

22/02/2006 - 12:28:58
Cavan manager Martin McElkennon is to plan without the services of Michael Lyng and Paul Brady for the remainder of the NFL Division 2B campaign.

Cavan Gaels forward Lyng has been plagued by injuries since last last year.

A combination of groin, hamstring and back problems has seen his return date put back until closer to the All-Ireland championship.

Meanwhile, Mullahoran defender Brady has told the Cavan management that his commitments will lay elsewhere for the coming weeks.

The 26-year-old is to concentrate on furthering his handball career in America.

Already a World handball champion, Brady is currently ranked second in the US Pro Handball Series after beating American number one Emmett Peixoto in the Dallas final earlier this month.

Brady stood in as captain for Cavan's defeat in their league opener to Louth on February 5, but handball requirements saw him miss the subsequent win over Wicklow.

McElkennon, whose side take on Fermanagh on Friday night in the annual Patrick McManus SF Memorial tournament in Kinawley, is also waiting on influential trio Gerald Pierson, Darren Rabbitte and Dermot McCabe to return from injury.
