US military says no survivors found at landslide site

US Marines searching at the site of a massive landslide in the Philippines have not found any survivors so far, a US military spokesman said today.

News reports had earlier quoted a government spokesman as saying 50 survivors had been found.

US Marine Capt. Burrell Parmer said he had spoken to the commander of US forces digging at the site of a buried school in the farming village of Guinsaugon.

“They have yet to receive any word on any type of survivors,” Parmer said. “I asked for specifics, and I asked had they received or found any type of survivors, and the answer was no.”
