Ryanair passengers delayed in Spain, airline blames lightening
20/02/2006 - 10:01:40Hundreds of Ryanair passengers have been delayed in northern Spain after four aircraft were struck by lightening on approach to Santander airport yesterday.
Three aircraft landed normally in Santander and one was diverted to Valladolid.
After inspections by engineers at Santander airport, the flight to Frankfurt Hahn was cleared for departure after a six hour delay.
The two flights to Rome Ciampino and London Stansted had to be cancelled because the two remaining aircraft required further overnight inspection and repair, a Ryanair spokesperson said.
Passengers on these flights were forced to stay overnight but are due to leave on two extra flights this afternoon.
