FT Chelsea 3 Colchester 1

Two Joe Cole goals helped Chelsea into the FA Cup quarter-finals, after little Colchester had stunned Jose Mourinho’s millionaires by taking a shock early lead at Stamford Bridge today.

Cole came off the bench to grab two late goals and put paid to the Coca-Cola League One minnows.

Ricardo Carvalho scored in his own net to put the visitors in front – but Paulo Ferreira levelled before half-time.

Davison produced a stunning save to deny Crespo in the 71st minute. The Argentinian goal ace looked certain to score from eight yards. But Davison somehow kept it out – and Pat Baldwin scrambled the rebound clear.

Davison could do nothing eight minutes later, though, when Cole finally put the Premiership champions ahead.

Crespo unleashed a fierce shot which bounced just in front of the goalkeeper. He saved it – but this time the ball dropped kindly for Cole who made no mistake.

Cole scored a second in stoppage time with a 25-yard shot to cap a solo run.
