Second win for trainer Suzy Smith
The emergence of Suzy Smith as a trainer to be reckoned with continued when Material World gave her a second win in the space of three days in the Blue Square Handicap Hurdle.
Colin Bolger was in control on the winner approaching the final flight and even though Gungadu closed the gap on the run-in, he was still a length and three-quarters adrift at the post.
The long-time leader Double Dizzy was seven lengths back in third, with Tana River a promising fourth.
Smith is unlikely to take Material World to Cheltenham as she feels the Coral Cup will not suit the one-eyed mare and it is more likely she will run at the Punchestown Festival in April.
Smith said: “She got an infection in her eye three years ago which wouldn’t go away and in the end we decided to have it removed.
“The hustle and bustle of the Coral Cup wouldn’t be her cup of tea and I shall probably run Golden Bay in that.”
