A teenager charged in connection with the alleged mugging of Dubliner Brian O'Callaghan, who ended up in a coma, has been released on bail pending directions from the DPP.

The 17-year-old boy was remanded in custody by the Dublin Children’s Court last week following a garda objection to bail.

The boy is charged with robbery of a mobile phone from Mr O’Callaghan at Saint Audeon’s Park, Dublin 8, on April 17 last year.

The teen has also been accused of being involved in muggings of two other men in south inner city Dublin.

He is also facing further charges for allegedly robbing a mobile phone from a man on Dublin’s Cook Street, on December 29 last and robbery of a mobile phone from another male on the same street on November 19 last.

The teen also faces charges for criminal damage and failing to appear in court.

He had been remanded in custody last week after a garda objection to bail.

Judge John O’Neill granted bail today on condition that the teenager signed on daily at Kevin St garda station and obeyed a curfew at his home from 10pm until 7am every day.

Garda Rory Heffernan said that directions from the DPP were being sought.

The teen was remanded to appear again in March.
