Ljungberg: We're not scared

16/02/2006 - 17:59:26
Freddie Ljungberg believes moving to a new stadium could benefit Arsenal in their contract talks with striker Thierry Henry.

The Gunners’ first season at the Emirates Stadium coincides with the last year on Henry’s current contract.

Missing out on a Champions League place would fuel speculation over Henry’s future – Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premiership – but Ljungberg insists moving stadium would help the club.

“It’s Thierry’s own decision, no-one else’s,” said the 28-year-old midfielder.

“We have a lot of talent in the team and it’s going to get better and better. We’re going to a new stadium next year so that will definitely help for him to stay.”

Arsenal face Real Madrid in the Champions League next week, although their Premiership form suggests they could struggle against the Spanish giants.

Ljungberg had admitted Arsenal were a “little bit scared to hold the ball” during their midweek defeat to Liverpool, although he insists they are not scared of opponents.

“We’re really looking forward to the game against Madrid,” he added on Sky Sports News. “It is a transitional period for us and everyone knows about it, but we’re not scared – that’s a point I had to make to the fans.”
