Local radio listenerships overtake national figures

For the first time since figures were released, people are now listening to more local radio than national.

According to the latest official figures, almost six out of 10 adults are now tuning in to their local stations.

Over the past year the numbers opting for their local stations have continued to rise while the numbers listening to RTÉ's services have dropped.

The figures in the JNLR survey show that, on average, people listen to more than four hours of radio each day and more than two of these are spent with local stations, while the nationals are struggling to keep up with less than two hours each day.
