100% mortgages prompt property boom among single women

Young, single women are reportedly becoming a major force in Ireland's property market as a result of the introduction of 100% mortgages.

Reports this morning said a survey by a leading mortgage advisory firm had found that unmarried women under the age of 35 accounted for 57% of all single people applying for the full loan in Dublin.

Elsewhere in the country, the survey found women made up 37% of all single people applying for 100% mortgages, up from 29% in 2003.

It also found that 45% of all first-time buyers were now women, compared with 38% in 2003.
