ISEQ edges ahead

14/02/2006 - 11:40:30
The ISEQ index of shares was up 5.58 points to 7621.63 in early trading today.

Budget carrier Ryanair was up 4c to €7.74 as it denied almost all of the safety and security breaches uncovered at the airline by two reporters working for the Channel 4 Dispatches programme.

The pair infiltrated the airline and secretly recorded its training programme and flights over a period of five years.

The results of their investigation, broadcast last night, highlighted a string of security and safety breaches, including failure to conduct proper safety training, failure to check passengers' passports, failure to check safety equipment and cabin crews falling asleep on the job.

In a statement issued last night, Ryanair claimed it had produced factual evidence to disprove all the main allegations made by the programme and that the Civil Aviation Authority in Britain and the Irish Aviation Authority had both concluded that there was no substance to the claims.

Meanwhile, it was a mostly good morning for the financials. AIB was up 7c to €18.61, Irish Life & Permanent was up 5c to €17.45 and Bank of Ireland rose 2c to €14.42.

Anglo Irish Bank was down in early trading, shedding 2c to €13.
