Chavez calls Blair 'madman's subordinate ally'
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called US President George Bush “a madman” today and accused the United States of planning to invade Iran.
Chavez, speaking during a televised speech, said Prime Minister Tony Blair has teamed up with Bush in a confrontation with Venezuela.
“He’s the madman’s unconditional and subordinate ally, and now he also came out shooting against us,” said Chavez, responding to comments made by Blair yesterday during a weekly question-and-answer session in the House of Commons.
“I say with the greatest respect to the president of Venezuela that when he forms an alliance with Cuba, I would prefer to see Cuba a proper functioning democracy,” Blair said.
Chavez said the US president was planning an invasion of Iran, Venezuela’s closest ally in the Middle East.
“He thinks of himself as the owner of the world and now they are making plans to invade Iran, and plans against Venezuela too. The guy is a madman,” said Chavez.
“The Americans are going to have to tie him down one of these days, because if they don’t he’s capable of destroying half the world.”
