Negotiations between hospital consultants and employers break down
09/02/2006 - 16:24:15Talks between hospital consultants and employers were adjourned for at least another two weeks this afternoon.
Negotiations on a new contract reached a standstill over the issue of pay.
Consultants and medical employers will now go into talks separately on the issue, before meeting again.
“There is, to be truthful, a lack of trust on our part on certain members of the negotiating team,” said Finbar Fitzpatrick of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association.
“There should not be any changes in the contractual arrangements until the negotiations are finished.
“The chairman will meet with the parties individually and there's a target date so we'll meeting again in a fortnight but that may or may not happen.”
