Unilever sells Birds Eye business

09/02/2006 - 08:32:47
The owner of frozen-food firm Birds Eye confirmed today it was selling the business and other European operations.

Consumer products giant Unilever said the move, which followed an extensive review of the business, was a “tough call” but that it had struggled to find market growth.

The sale will affect 3,500 workers. Also being sold are the Iglo brands, although Unilever will keep the business in Italy.

Unilever also announced pre-tax profits for 2005 had increased 28% to €4.75bn.
