Donegal councillors back proposed ban on holiday homes
07/02/2006 - 08:21:37Councillors in Donegal are reportedly backing proposals to halt the building of holiday homes in some of the most picturesque parts of the county.
Reports this morning said local councillors had decided to include the proposals in the draft county development plan for Donegal, which will now be subject to a public consultation process.
The proposals call for a ban on new holiday homes in areas where such structures already represent more than 20% of housing stock.
This morning's reports said councillors backed the measure last night after hearing that the tiny seaside village of Portsalon has around four times as many holiday homes as permanent houses.
A similar situation has also been allowed to develop in several others towns and villages in Donegal.
