Muslims rally in Indonesia against cartoons
Muslim protesters rallied outside the Danish Embassy in Indonesia today to protest drawings of the Prophet Muhammad that have ignited Islamic anger around the world.
Around 100 police officers guarded the mission in centre of the capital’s business district.
It was the second protest in the world’s most populous Muslim nation against the cartoons, which first appeared in a Danish newspaper but have since been republished by media outlets across the world.
“The cartoons were meant to insult us,” said Hendri Novrizal, one of around 300 demonstrators. “We wouldn’t insult Jesus or the Buddha because such an act would cause tension among believers.”
The protest took place outside the high-story building that houses the embassy.
On Friday, demonstrators briefly stormed into the lobby of the building, but they caused no damage.
