Prophet cartoons condemned by Indonesia's president

Indonesia’s president condemned caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, saying today that a Danish newspaper’s decision to publish them was ”insensitive”.

The drawings sparked a protest in Jakarta yesterday. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that while his government had already expressed dismay about the cartoons – which were reprinted this week in several European newspapers – he wanted to speak out against them personally as well.

“The Indonesian government condemns the publication of the Prophet Muhammad cartoons,” he told reporters, saying the decision was “obviously insensitive to the views and faith of other religions.”
