Man stabbed in West Belfast family feud

04/02/2006 - 08:44:50
A man was stabbed to death in the Ballymurphy area of West Belfast last night as he picked up his children for the weekend.

The father of five, who has been named as Gerard Devlin, had recently left the area as a result of an on-going feud between families, but was killed while on a brief return.

The victim, who is in his late 30s, had been attacked on a number of occasions in the past. In one such incident, his throat was slashed.

Local Sinn Féin MLA Michael Ferguson said that despite the efforts of the local community, the feud has now resulted in an unnecessary loss of life.
