Report recommends centralisation of paediatric services

03/02/2006 - 10:49:38
A report on the future of Irish paediatric care services is believed to recommend that the functions of the country's three main children's hospitals be centralised in one large facility.

The independent consultants' report, which is due to be published later today, was commissioned by the Health Service Executive late last year.

It is understood to recommend that the three existing children's hospitals in Dublin be replaced by one single facility.

The proposal is likely to prove controversial as almost €50m has already been spent on plans to replace Temple Street Hospital with a new facility on the grounds of the Mater complex.
